White Stag Historical Index
This is an index of historical items, some newer, some older, relevant to White Stag in the Crossroads of America Council, the staff reunion, and Camp Red Wing. When possible, these will be sorted by document or item type, such as roster, Daily Stag, etc.
Much of this content was contained in course director pass-down data that was rescued from the trash by Tom Kear at the end of the White Stag program in the Crossroads of America Council. Some of this course director administrative pass-down data dates back to 1995. I am eternally grateful to Tom for keeping this vital history from being lost forever, and to have the opportunity to preserve and share this information with you.
Ryan Augustine has also entrusted to me his JLTC syllabus containing information as far back as 1994 which I will also be digitizing and posting here as time permits.

- 1997 Troop Instructor Assignments - These were the instructors assigned for the orientation trail on the first day of the conference and the adventure trail on Thursday as we made our way to the outpost.

- Eastern Emblem Patch Order - Dated July 17, 1996.
- 1996 ASPL Candidates - Memorandum from Gary Jones and George DeBlois to Travis Walker, Nick Snider, Andy Peters, and Ryan Augustine concerning candidates for assistant senior patrol leader positions for the 1996 conference.
- David Bond Completion Certificate - Certificate of completion issued to participant David Bond; Dated June 15, 1996.
- Completion Certificate Template - Set up for mail merge from the participant roster spreadsheet. This one was probably the final production version.
- Another Completion Certificate Template - Another version of a completion certificate template set up for mail merge from the participant roster spreadsheet. Appears less formal than the above version.
- White Stag Staff Commitment Letter - June 8, 1996 staff commitment letter from Kirk Mangold to Ryan Augustine, Troop 961 scoutmaster and senior patrol leader, respectively.

- Debt Letters to Staff - Concerning any outstanding staff dues. I believe amounts were likely handwritten.

- Job List - Undated; Was in the files passed down from Marilyn Smith, most of which pertain to 1996.
- Participant Name Tags - These were printed, cut into ID card size pieces, then laminated to make the participant name tags.
- Nature Game Score Sheet - Used to keep track of stats for the nature survival game played by participants and staff during the course.
- Troop 963 Scoutmaster Greeting - George DeBlois' welcoming words to members of Troop 963 on the opening day of White Stag 1996 during the first troop meeting.
- Personal Conference Goals - A form for participants to describe their personal goals to achieve during White Stag '96. This form was used in numerous other years.
- Personal Resource Questionnaire - This was the base template set up for mail merge to obtain data on individual staff members' knowledge and resources during staff development.
- Participant Name Tags - These are similar to the name tags document above with the addition of the name of their assigned patrol campsite. White Stag tradition was to assign arbitrary names to each patrol site during the course and not use the permanently assigned names on the camp map. There was a different theme every year.

- Completed 1996 Staff Personal Resource Questionnaires - Converted to PDF from the original Word document on 12/3/2025 which is why they are dated as such. These are the completed Personal Resource Questionnaires as completed by staff members in '96.
- Worship Service - Interfaith worship service, 1996.
- Jim Rawlinson Eagle Court of Honor - Dated February 5, 1996, this is the itinerary for White Stag Staff member Jim Rawlinson's Eagle Court of Honor held at St. Matthew Catholic Parish in Indianapolis on March 17, 1996.
- Northeast District Chair Address - Dated January 9, 1996, these remarks were delivered by George DeBlois at a dinner and awards ceremony for the Crossroads of America Council's Northeast District.

- Matt Seidl Completion Certificate - Certificate of completion issued to participant Matt Seidl; Dated June 14, 1997.
- 1997 White Stag Informational Brochure - This is the one page informational brochure given to prospective attendees for the 1997 course and used for recruiting.
- Conducting a Council Junior Leader Training Conference - Philmont Training Center - This is an archived web page dated April 12, 1997 by Lewis Orans of the Sam Houston Council in Texas regarding a conference held at the Philmont Training Center from June 22, 1997 to June 26, 1997 conducted for the purpose of training adult staff members to run a JLTC in their home council.
- JR Leach Memorandum - May 1997 memorandum from Chuck Sparks to JR Leach concerning procurement of a custom White Stag emblem branding iron. This may be what was used in production of our leather neckerchief slides.
- 1997 Map Quiz - This is a quiz used to test orienteering skills using a map of Camp Red Wing.

- 1997 Conference Participant Equipment List - Dated January 4, 1997. This is the list mailed out to all participants for packing purposes prior to leaving to attend White Stag in 1997.
- 1997 Scoutmaster Letter - A letter dated August 1, 1997 sent by Chuck Sparks to home troop scoutmasters of the scouts who attended White Stag as a participant in 1997. Note the recruiting of staff applicants for two courses to be held in 1998, however the date mentioned for the second session is August and not July.
- 1997 Participant Registration Form - This is the form used by home troop scoutmasters to register scouts for White Stag 1997.
- 1997 Participant Application for 1998 White Stag Staff - Dated October 14, 1997, this is the application for 1998 staff sent out to 1997 White Stag participants.
- 1997 Eagle Camp Mugs Order - Memorandum from Chuck Sparks to Eagle Camp Mugs ordering two cases of orange camp mugs.
- Draft Correspondance Memorandum - This March 27, 1997 fax from Chuck Sparks to George DeBlois includes draft versions of correspondance to be communicated to participants and staff respectively. The staff correspondance includes a proposed schedule and assignments for the April staff development weekend in 1997.
- White Stag Staff Evaluation Form - Undated, but was found in the 1997 files. This is a pretty standard evaluation form we used year after year.
- Emblem Production Quote Request - Memorandum from Dick Parrott to Eastern Emblem Manufacturing Corporation requesting a price quote for production of White Stag patches, staff, and participant neckerchiefs. The document is dated February 24, 1996 but the context appears to indicate this was a quote requested in early 1997 for the 1997 course.

- Voltage Drop Calculation Worksheet - Used by Dick Parrott and Gary Jones in the design and assembly of a three hundred fifty foot power supply cord needed by one of the troop tents for the 1997 course.

- Course Completion Certificate Template - Set up for mail merge from one of the participant spreadsheets. The production version of this was printed on beige certificate stock over a gray White Stag emblem watermark.
- Closing Ceremony
- Closing Ceremony - Part assignments are included in this version. This was the Friday night closing ceremony conducted on June 13, 1997 at the back of the Quail Run campsite where we received our White Stag badges and hat pins.
- February Staff Development Memorandum - Schedule; Addressed to All Staff.
- February Staff Development Reminder Postcard - Back before social media and e-mail, the assistant course director would print these on cardstock, cut them up into equal pieces, stick mailing address labels and stamps on the front, and drop them into the mail about a week to a week and a half prior to the upcoming staff development weekend to make sure nobody forgot to attend.
- January Staff Meeting Memorandum - January was traditionally the start of the season for White Stag staff. The first staff meeting was the beginning of staff development and for new staff members was their first real introduction to working on White Stag Staff. Addressed to George DeBlois; Dated January 4, 1997.

- March Staff Development Memorandum - Also dated April 9, 1997, but the dates contained within are scrambled between April and March. Lack of sleep that we all experienced caused stuff like this from time to time.

- Staff Songs - This is a bit of an amalgam as to the second song because 1998 in no way rhymes with, "we've found our piece of heaven," which was the rhyming insert for 1997. In '98, the correct line was, "we know our staff is great." This was probably last modified during '98 staff development before we'd decided on the final lyrics.

The Daily Stag
The Daily Stag is the official news publication of the White Stag Staff. Production continues to this day, although we are limited to only one issue a year at reunion time.

I believe we were not issued instructions for Thursday breakfast or lunch as the assumption was we would have figured it out by then. After that, we departed for the outpost. The next all-course meal was Friday lunch after we returned from the outpost and no further cooking was done at the patrol sites.

Patches
- White Stag TLTC Patch - From the collection of Raleigh Witham. We believe TLTC translates to Troop Leader Training Conference and perhaps was the link between Silver Bars and JLTC. Overall this is our White Stag patch, just a little smaller and a little older. Any additional information on this patch would be appreciated.
- 2025 White Stag Staff Reunion Commemorative Patch Rendering - The real thing has metallic green thread and looks even cooler! The Reunion Committee had a limited run of fifty patches produced and they were issued to attendees of the 2025 Staff Reunion.
- Semi-Inverted Color Scheme White Stag Patch - From the collection of Raleigh Witham. This patch appears fairly recent, but note the absence of JLTC or NYLT and the alternative color scheme. This patch confused me at first, but I think this may be a White Stag patch from Hoosier Trails Council, who patterend their course after ours starting in the mid-2000s. This patch has a red button hanger loop at the top. Again, any additional information is appreciated.
